Mantra Monday XX: It's OK to Ask for Help

Author: Joe Lizz There is a beautiful power and strength in being vulnerable. It’s humbling, both for ourselves and those with whom we share that vulnerability. Personally, I am guilty of not seeking help when I need it. Sometimes it’s due to pride or ego and other times it’s because I don’t want to seem like a burden to those from whom I need to ask for help. Three decades of life have passed and I’m finally learning that not asking for help hurts me and creates ripples of delays, miscommunications, and frustration far beyond myself. 1. See help as a learning experience What is life without constant growth and learning? If we knew all there was to know and had experienced all there was to experience, we would be...

Mantra Monday XVIII: To Have, You Should Be

Author: Joe Lizz If you want good friends, you should be a good friend. If you want to succeed, you should be hard working. If you want to be trusted, you should be honest. The things that are worth the most in life are the things we must work for.   Sometimes that means putting in extra hours at work, sometimes that means working harder at the gym, and sometimes that means working on ourselves to be the best version of ourselves that we can for those around us. Mantra Monday VXII: Let Go, Let Grow

Author: Joe Lizz When I was little, my mother used to keep a big garden out front. Every year she would grow vegetables and raspberries, and in the fall, we would have our own home-grown pumpkins and gourds for Halloween. Inside, she also kept beautiful house plants in pots in our kitchen and back porch. While I hated having to weed the outside garden every year, I loved repotting the indoor plants with her.  We would always talk about how important it is to not confirm yourself by your roots and to move on when you have outgrown where you currently are in life.   Growth means change, and sometimes change can be hard. We are, by nature, creatures of habit...

Mantra Monday VXI: I Am Becoming

Author: Joe Lizz I am becoming.   The person I want to be. Each and every day, I take another step toward that person.    Bumps in the road are there for a reason and everything is happening according to a greater plan. While it can feel like time passes slowly when we find ourselves in those “in-between” feeling moments, such moments offer us the time we need to reflect, digest, and progress. Go easy on yourself. While you should always push forward, you don’t have to push so hard.   Be gentle with yourself; evolve and grow in a place of peace. At no day, at no specific time are you required to do more than you are capable of doing...

Mantra Monday XV: Connect More By Disconnecting

Author: Joe Lizz We live in a beautiful time where technology makes it easier to connect with people all around the world through the internet than by dropping a letter in the mailbox or even picking up the phone to dial someone’s number. A couple of “double taps” on Instagram and several thumbs up on Facebook and you’re suddenly up-to-date on the lives of people who, for all we know, you never would have met if it weren’t for the digital world of profile photos and “Facebook wants to know how you feel” status updates.   I’m no stranger to the benefits social media can bring into my real life away from my phone, tablet, or computer.  I met one of...
